Aces and chips image888Poker confirmed this week that they had agreed a deal with UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St Pierre that will see the mixed martial arts icon become a global ambassador for the poker group.

The deal agreed by the two parties is a 12 month contract that will see the ultimate fighting champion take part in the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event that is set to take place later this summer as well as a number of other tournaments around the world.

As part of the deal, St Pierre will also be playing poker online representing 888Poker and all funds raised by his involvement in poker tournaments and online games will go towards anti-bullying campaigns.

St Pierre becomes the latest in a line of UFC names to become heavily associated with the world of poker. Bruce Buffer and Mike Swick have built reputations for themselves on the poker circuit.

Unfortunately, St Pierre suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage to his right knee back in December, 2011 and is sidelined until November this year. It remains to be seen if he will be allowed to don any 888Poker sponsored gear in the octagon after Full Tilt Poker had notoriously lost its sponsorship with UFC after being indicted in April last year
