The Insider - FA Cup final 2008 betting guide
Written on Thursday 15th May, 9:43 am by Daniel Muireadhach

The 127th FA Cup final is just round the corner, in what has argueably been the most unpredictable competition in recent years. Not in living memory has there been so many underdog victories through the rounds, as one by one, the big Premiership clubs fell.

The FA Cup has been a punters dream this year, with massive odds offered at the expense of big teams, who were not prepared to play their best players. For the eagle eye, plenty of money has been made and there is still a bit more available in the final.

Portsmouth v Cardiff
FA Cup Final, Saturday 17 May 2008, Kick-off: 1500 BST, Wembley Stadium
Harry Redknapp was born for this day and has waited a long time to get here. Although Portsmouth have lost their last four games in the league, it is fair to say their attention has all been focused on the FA Cup. They go into the tie 4/6 (totesport) clear favourites to beat Championship side Cardiff. The return to training of David James and Sol Campbell is a sign that they could be picked for the first 11 come Saturday. Cardiff have not had the best of finishes to their league season either, with one win in four coming against Barnsley in the last game of the season. Having not appeared in an FA Cup final since 1927, it is not surprising that they are rank outsiders for the final at 4/1 (Paddypower).

Prediction: Portsmouth will be putting out their strongest side for the final, which is set to include top shot-stopper David James and defender Sol Campbell shoring up the back line. They have made a habit of winning their FA Cup games 1-0 and I cant see this being any different. At 11/2 (William Hill) for Portsmouth to win 1-0, I would be giving this some serious thought.
