| Single Goal Costs William Hill £570,000 |
William Hill was counting the cost of a single Premiership goal that forced the bookmaker to pay out £570,000 at the end of last year.Back in November, a Maltese national placed a €1 bet on a 19 fixture accumulator that came down to being decided by Glen Johnson’s late winner for Liverpool against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The lucky punter, a 41 year old waiter, won £570,000 at odds of 683,783/1 for his correct predictions and has left Glen Johnson with a very tainted reputation at the UK bookmaker!
The accumulator pay out contributed to a terrible month for William Hill as figures were released this week that showed win margins drop from 19% to 17% in the final quarter of 2011 as big teams like Manchester City, West Ham and Charlton enjoyed impressive form in the league.
Chief Executive for William Hill Ralph Topping stated "November was certainly a very good month for our football clients betting on small-stake, high-return multiple bets."
It was good news for the bookmaker overall though as despite the poor end to the year, William Hill was still on target to meet its expectations of £247 million profits for 2011.
