The company that brought us the Sega Mega Drive and Sonic the Hedgehog will turn its attention to high quality casino games and poker software in a bid take a slice of the $10 billion a year online gambling market.

Sega Games Ltd has already entered into a partnership with Playtech, a leading casino and software specialist and launch the sega casino and poker platforms in the coming months.

After receiving the news that an Alderney gaming license had been granted, a Sega spokesperson said: “The Alderney Gambling Control Commission provides the most comprehensive gaming regulations with the strictest requirements and as such is recognizes as the most reputable online gaming jurisdiction.”

“This provides as excellent fit with Sega’s regulatory compliant strategy, and we are pleased to be approved by this leading authority.”

It is unlikely that Sonic the Hedgehog slot game will be out for a while, but other ‘Sega favourites’ will be appearing in game titles set to be released soon.
