Harry RedknappHarry Redknapp has emerged as the people’s choice to replace Fabio Capello as England manager and is also the early favourite with bookies.

Stan James is offering Redknapp at 2/7 after the shock resignation of Capello last night in relation to the disagreement between the Italian and the Football Association over the handling of the John Terry captaincy situation.

The closest rival to Redknapp is current under 21s incumbent Stuart Pearce who is available with William Hill at 7/1. Redknapp has always stated that he has wanted the job and would accept it if he was offered it.

Graham Sharpe, spokesman for William Hill, stated “We'll find out for sure now whether Harry wants the job - but if he can't take it at this stage and a caretaker boss leads England into the Euros Harry may have lost his chance.”

Other potential candidates for the job include Guus Hiddink who is 8/1 with bet365 and Sky Bet has also listed Jose Mourinho and Roy Hodgson both at 10/1. However, the stand out favourite is Redknapp with some bookies even suspending betting on the Tottenham manager.

Players and pundits alike have been clamouring to support the appointment of Redknapp as England national team manager.

England star man Wayne Rooney tweeted "Got to be English to replace him. Harry Redknapp for me."

Redknapp’s reduced odds have also opened up the markets in other betting areas including who the next Tottenham manager could be if Redknapp leaves for the England job. Bet Victor is offering Real Madrid manager and ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho at 4/1. David Moyes is the second favourite at 7/1 with Tim Sherwood available at 8/1.

There is also a market open on how England will now perform at the 2012 European Championships now Capello has left. Totesport has England available at 8/1 to win the tournament. Betfair has England listed at 333/100 to reach the final. Capello’s departure has not harmed England’s odds of getting out of Group A at Euro 2012 either. Paddy Power is offering England at 6/4 to win Group A and 2/5 to qualify from the group as opposed to 13/8 not to qualify from the group.
