Punters Bank On Royal Baby Girl Despite No Announcement On Sex

Betting slipPlucky punters are possibly betting with their hearts rather than their heads as wagers flood in for girl names for the next Royal baby. Kate Middleton is expecting her second child very soon and bookmakers are reporting an overwhelming amount of bets for names like Elizabeth (5/1), Charlotte (11/2) and Victoria (12/1).

William Hill slashed odds on front runner Alice now at 6/4 and several other bookmakers have cut odds on several other girls names. The shortest priced boys names are James at 14/1, along with Arthur 14/1. Followed by Henry and Richard at 201/1.

Earlier this week bookmakers saw some money for the names Sam or Samantha, as speculation on social media suggested that the new baby may be named after Kate’s close friend Sam Waley-Cohen.

Simon Clare, from bookmakers Coral, confirmed they had reduced their odds on 'Sam' in recent days because of the popularity of the name.

He said: "We have slashed his odds from 66/1 to 40/1 'Given how close the Duchess of Cambridge is to Sam Waley-Cohen we are also seeing money for Sam or Samuel at 150/1 and Samantha at 200/1 to be their second baby's name."
