| PokerStars Refunds Thousands of Players after Server Crashes Mid-Play |
Online poker website PokerStars was being forced to refund thousands of players after their server went down without warning. Many players were unable to access the PokerStars tables from about 5am yesterday morning and a number of players were involved in games when the crash occurred meaning they lost their stake and were unable to gain any winnings.
It is believed up to 70,000 players were involved in game play when the server problems hit PokerStars yesterday and PokerStars is now counting the cost of the refund procedure.
Problems being reported during the server issue included players being unable to view hand histories, requested emails not being sent to players and iPad users being shut out of games before finally not being able to access the site at all.
The online poker company sent an email out to those players that were affected by the problems stating "PokerStars is currently experiencing some problems with players logging in, creating accounts, and accessing the cashier, among others.”
It continued "We are reviewing the situation and we hope to have this fixed shortly. We will be considering refunds for materially affected players.”
The statement also read "Materially affected" means you missed a considerable number of hands and lost a significant portion of your chip stack due to blinds and antes. If you believe you were materially affected by this issue, please email us."
There is no information available to suggest how PokerStars will refund players and how much each player will get.
In order to claim a refund, players must email the support team at PokerStars who can be contacted at: support@pokerstars.com
