| Poker Tournament in Berlin Raided By Gunman |
An attempt to steal the prize money at a televised poker tournament in Berlin was foiled by security staff according to German police.
On the final day of the EPT Berlin, masked men wielding hand guns and machetes, burst into the Grand Hyatt hotel in central Berlin. There mission was to steal the million-dollar prize fund, which was due to be split between the winners.
"Several masked, armed individuals entered the Grand Hyatt and fled with a haul of money," police spokesperson, Heidi Vogt told the press.
The attack was took place at around 2.15pm (13:15 GMT), midway through the final day. There were no reported fatalities, but seven people were slightly injured in the brief panic, as guards tackled the men as they entered. This brief video shows the moment the gang entered the the Berlin hotel.
The gunmen did manage to get away with some of the million dollar prize money, but were forced to drop most of it after a scuffle with security.
The EPT resumed approximately four hours after the attack so that it could reach its conclusion.
