Phil Hellmuth imagePoker legend Phil Hellmuth was one of the biggest losers this weekend after he lost $21,000 on the Super Bowl after the New York Giants upset the odds to beat the New England Patriots 21-17.

The man labelled as the “Poker Brat” has a reputation for being a sore loser and this weekend saw him suffer one of his biggest defeats as he squandered thousands of dollars betting on the wrong team in this year’s Super Bowl.

Hellmuth placed eight huge bets on the big game but none of his wagers came off. The eleven times World Series of Poker bracelet winner tweeted about his failings on the social network site.

He said "Lost EVERY Super Bowl bet: 8 out of 8. Apparently, I like records: set my personal record for biggest loss on one game: $21k plus juice."

As part of his bets, Hellmuth bet $2,000 that there would be more than 27 points scored in the first half, $2,000 that there would be more than 53 points scored in the game and bet $2,000 that the New York Giants would score more than 27 points. He also bet $2,000 that the New England Patriots would score more than 29 points and $3,000 that the New England Patriots would win outright with a 3 point handicap.

In addition to these bets, Hellmuth also placed another three bets on the game that failed to come off resulting in an eight bet failure for the WSOP icon. Hellmuth’s prediction that the Super Bowl would involve some high-scoring from two prolific teams fell short. However, he did manage to keep a high spirit after his big loss.

"Heading to LA Monday to play some poker at the Commerce Casino. Tough Sunday, but I'm determined to turn this week into a winning week!" he tweeted.
