Paddy Power to Pay Bendtner Fine
Written on Wednesday 20th June, 8:26 am by Brian Wilkinson
Paddy Power logoPaddy Power confirmed that it was going to pay the fine issued by UEFA to Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner after he displayed the Irish bookmaker’s logo after scoring against Portugal.

Bendtner was handed an £80,000 fine by the European football governing body for “improper conduct” after he revealed the Paddy Power logo on his underpants after scoring his second goal in Denmark’s 3-2 defeat to Portugal last week.

However, the fine has attracted criticism from sectors of the gambling industry as well as anti-racism campaigners. Earlier this week, the Croatian Football Federation was fined just £65,000 after Croat supporters were found guilty of singing racist chants at their group game against Italy.

Paddy Power also stated the fine was “barmy” and stated that they would be covering the fine that they felt was harsh against Bendtner.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: "We don't believe that Nicklas should be penalised for nothing more serious than wearing his lucky underpants which, in fairness, was only a bit of fun."

Bendtner was also given a one match suspension and was given three days to appeal against the fine.
