Paddy Power Gives Money Back to Punters That Bet on Pacquiao

Paddy Power logoIrish bookmaker Paddy Power was returning money bet by punters on Manny Pacquiao to win his fight this past weekend as part of a “Justice Payment” process.

In a result that stunned the world on Saturday night, WBO Welterweight champion Philippines-born Pacquiao lost his title to Californian fighter Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas. Two of the three judges, CJ Ross and Duane Ford, scored the fight in favour of Bradley despite Pacquiao landing almost 100 more punches. Jerry Roth was the only judge to score the bout in Pacquiao’s favour.

Paddy Power is therefore giving money back to those punters that bet online for Pacquiao to win outright or on points.

Even fight promoter Bob Arum has stated his desire for the Attorney General of Nevada to investigate the fight and how such a result occurred. Despite the decision sparking claims of corruption within boxing, Pacquiao remained diplomatic and philosophical about the result.

Pacquiao said “I respect the decision but 100 per cent I believe I won the fight.”

Paddy Power has often found itself at the centre of controversy with advertising campaigns and promotions that have caused debate. Previous controversies have included adverts that make jokes of the blind, chavs and transgender individuals.

However, this latest PR opportunity is sure to work a treat with the fans and be a small consolation to those thousands of punters that feel the dubious result of Saturday’s cost them their winnings.
