| Odds Slashed on Fabio Capello to Lose England Job before Euro 2012 |
Leading UK bookmaker William Hill has cut the odds on Fabio Capello not being England manager for the 2012 European Championships.Capello has been reduced from 8/1 to 9/2 after it emerged in the media this weekend that he did not agree with the Football Association’s decision to strip John Terry of the England captaincy due to his involvement in a racism trial.
"I have spoken to the [FA] chairman and I have said that in my opinion one cannot be punished until it is official and the court - a non-sport court, a civil court - had made a decision to decide if John Terry has done what he is accused of,” said Capello.
John Terry is on trial after being accused of using a racial slur against QPR defender Anton Ferdinand in a Premier League fixture between QPR and Chelsea on 23rd October, 2011. A date for his trial has been delayed until 9th July, 2012.
William Hill is now offering odds on who will be appointed the next England manager if Fabio Capello does leave the England post before the 2012 European Championships start on 8th June, 2012.
Harry Redknapp is currently the favourite for the job at 7/4 with Roy Hodgson available at 11/2. Alan Pardew is the next available candidate at 10/1 and then there is Arsene Wenger listed at 14/1. Punters could also bet on Martin O’Neill and Jose Mourinho at 16/1 or Stuart Pearce at 20/1.
William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe stated “If Fabio makes a stand on principle over this matter it could easily result in a parting of the ways.”
