Royal flushA man from Minnesota has managed to win a World Series of Poker title, having mistakenly entered the competition.

Christan Pham, 40, beat 219 other contestants to win $81,314 as well as a prestigious WSOP gold bracelet. The poker professional said that he thought he was entering to play no-limit Texas Hold ‘em but instead ended up in a different event: no-limit deuce-to-seven draw lowball.

Mr Pham told Poker News that it only occurred to him once the cards were dealt that he had made an error. "When I got to the table, and when I got dealt five cards. I realised that something was wring."

"I  said 'Oh my god!' because in Minnesota we don't have this game. This was the first time I played this game, but I tried to learn the games at the table from the people at the table."

After his initial shock, Mr Pham managed to progress in the tournament. He picked up tips from other players at the table and surprisingly came through victorious.

"I didn’t understand much of the game, but enough, and in the future for sure I will register for this game. I love it!" Pham added.
