| Ladbrokes Sack Betting-Odds Chief After Internal Investigation |
UK bookmaker Ladbrokes sacked one of its most prominent senior figures this week after an internal investigation is believed to have ruled his conduct in the job to be inappropriate.Jon Thompson’s role at Ladbrokes was to keep a view over the betting odds that Ladbrokes produced. Ladbrokes would not confirm or deny the reasons for his sacking but analysts within the industry suggest that Thompson had formed an inappropriate relationship with some of the bookmaker’s biggest punters.
Thompson had been with Ladbrokes for just over a year having joined from the troubled Bodog Casino. It has been confirmed by Ladbrokes that the internal investigation into Thompson’s conduct was a company issue and not a police issue.
The Ladbrokes spokesperson said "Jon Thompson has been dismissed and one other member of staff has been suspended.”
There have now been certain sectors of the gambling industry questioning the structure of Ladbrokes after this sacking. An industry analyst stated "It makes them look at the least very stupid."
Despite the sacking, shares in Ladbrokes were up 4.6% at 168.6p and it has been anticipated that this controversial sacking is unlikely to have a large impact on Ladbrokes operations.
