| Ken Doherty Enters WPT Dublin Event to Win €200,000 |
Former world snooker champion Ken Doherty will be trying to win the €200,000 first place prize this weekend at the €2.5k Texas Hold’em World Poker Tour event in Dublin.Doherty is line up alongside 332 fellow players in the World Poker Tour event that is worth an estimated €800,000 and is the first time that a WPT event is gracing the Irish shores.
The snooker professional is currently locked in competitive action and, as he took to the tables yesterday afternoon, spoke of his aspirations for the tournament.
"I've played in a few big events at the Irish Open and loved every minute of them. I love poker. A lot of the snooker players on the tour play poker. We all have a great time trying to take each other's money," Doherty said.
He continued by saying "You're hoping to win the whole lot. It would be great, wouldn't it? But it's a fantastic tournament and it's great to be at the first WPT tournament in Ireland."
There are some established names that have also entered the tournament including poker heavyweights Jake Cody and Sam Trickett. Cody is famous for being a UK Triple Crown winner and the talented Trickett has already won $6 million in his career despite being only 24 years old.
