| Hacker Steals $61k from Daniel Negreanu’s Pokerstars Account |
Daniel Negreanu was counting the cost of being hacked this week after he had $61,000 stolen from his PokerStars account. The poker legend revealed that he had his Hotmail email account hacked last week as he returned to Las Vegas having competed in the Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Australia. Negreanu then found to his horror that the hacker gained access to his PokerStars account as well and began using the poker professional’s funds to finance a random ‘joy ride’ at the online poker site.
Negreanu said "Something I'll never understand. He didn't dump money to any one specific player, he kind of just sprayed my money around several tables, ultimately losing $61,000 of my money. Not entirely sure why he didn't empty my account, but I'm thankful that he didn't."
Despite not losing every single dollar of his money in his PokerStars account Negreanu will have to cover the cost of his losses by himself, even though he is sponsored by PokerStars.
"In cases like this, it's clearly spelled out in the PokerStars user agreement, that if your email is hacked you won't be reimbursed by the company... no matter who you are. Since it's clear that my account was hacked, and it wasn't the fault of PokerStars in any way, I just have to eat the loss,” Negreanu commented on his blog.
He continued by saying "Since I'd essentially lost a million a few days earlier, the $61,000 didn't really sting all that much. I was just happy to recover my email account from the hacker."
Police are now investigating the hacking ‘joy ride’ and Negreanu has already suggested potential punishments should the law authorities capture the perpetrator.
"I feel an appropriate punishment would be a few swift baseball bat swings to the groin area, and possibly a castration, but that's just me :-)"
