| Gambling Pensioners Arrested in Cyprus |
Cyprus police have arrested a group of elderly woman for gambling on card games, which is banned on the Mediterranean island.A total 42 woman, believed to be between the age of 75-95, were detained for taking part in games of poker and gin rummy for cash. Police were alerted to the illegal activity by neighbours, who could hear the ladies coming and going to a venue in Limassol.
In a short statement a Police spokesman said:"They were charged with gambling and released."
Card games are very popular in Cyprus, but a ban remains on playing for money. Bizarrely, online gambling is unregulated in the country.
