Gala Coral Sheds 300 Staff As Profits Recede

Gala CoralThe Gala Coral Group is cutting up to 300 jobs in its headquarters and at five bingo clubs that are set to close.

The leisure and gaming company, which owns Coral Bookmakers, Gala Bingo and the Grosvenor Casinos, has seen profits tumble in the last year as the recession, changes to gaming tax and the smoking ban all took their toll.

Many of the jobs are believed to be going in administrative roles such as HR, finance and marketing. Other staff will be made redundant as five non-profitable bingo clubs will shut-up-shop.

Neil Goulden, Gala Coral chairman, said: "Having reduced the number of divisions to three, evolution says now what about the HR structure and the finance structure."

The restructuring plans aim to save the business about £10m a year.
