| Facebook Releases Real-Money Gambling App in UK |
Facebook released the first ever real-money gambling app in the UK this week in the form of a new bingo game called Bingo Friendzy. The new game is the first of its kind to allow players to bet real-money on a series of bingo games. The launch has caused controversy with many feeling it is targeting the under 18 market.
However, Facebook was quick to stress that the game was not a joint venture and that the game had been solely developed by Gamesys. Facebook also stated that the new game would only be visible to those users based in the UK.
A spokesperson for Facebook said "Real money gaming is a popular and well-regulated activity in the UK, and we are allowing a partner to offer their games to adult users on the Facebook platform in a safe and controlled manner.”
Facebook usually takes a cut of 30% for any games that are released as an app on the social networking but Facebook was unable to confirm or deny if this would be true with Bingo Friendzy.
Gamesys is currently one of the largest online gambling software developers in the UK and is responsible for Sun Bingo and Heart Bingo.
