Group B is one of the weaker qualifying groups in Euro 2008, with tournament favourites Germany the pick of the bunch. Croatia, Poland and Austria make up the other three teams contesting a place in the last eight of the tournament, where the winner of the group will play the runner-up of Group A and the runner up will play the team who finishes top of Group A.
Germany have not won a game in the Euro Finals since last winning the tournament in 1996, however they will be confident they can finish top of Group B. They were only defeated once on-route to these finals and were impressive in the World Cup finals two years ago. Possibly coach Joachim Low’s biggest concern is who to play from the current crop of quality players Germany have at their disposal. The three times European Champions may already have the Quarter finals in mind as they seek a forth European crown.
Croatia looks the next real threat in Group B after Germany. Slaven Bilic's consistant performing squad looks good enough to join Germany in progressing to the Quarter Finals, however they are unlikely to be a huge threat to the bigger teams in Euro 2008.Poland and Austria are both European Championship debutants and are not expected to progress. Poland does have more experience at major tournaments than Austria but do struggle to make an impact once there. They will have either shock Germany or Croatia to get one of those vital top spots in the group, which is a big ask.
Austria looks certain to struggle even with the tournament being played in their own backyard. They are possibly the weakest side in the tournament this time round.
With the strength in depth Germany has, they look most likely to go through from this Group. It will be a huge shock if they don’t. From the remaining three Croatia look the most likely to get that second position, but Poland shouldn’t be written off.
