|Euro 2012 Betting Kicks Off|
The 2012 European Championship tournament kicks off today at 5pm BST with hosts Poland taking on Greece in the opening game and bookmakers are offering a range of markets for punters to bet on.
William Hill is offering a market for the outright winner of Euro 2012 with Spain installed as the favourites at 11/4. Germany are the second favourites at 3/1 with 2010 World Cup runners up Holland ranked at 6/1. France are available at 9/1 with England at 12/1 and Italy at 14/1.
Punters that fancy a dark horse might wish to look at Italy and Russia being on the market at 20/1. The host nation often seems to perform at the major tournaments and Poland are listed at 40/1 to win the tournament with Ukraine on offer at 50/1.
Fans of the underdog might wish to place a cheeky bet on the likes of Czech Republic (60/1), Greece (60/1), Ireland (80/1) or Denmark (100/1). Interestingly, Denmark were not far off those odds when they won the tournament in 1992 and Greece were also at longer odds when they shocked the world to win the tournament in 2004.
Paddy Power is offering a top goalscorer market. The Irish bookmaker currently has German striker Mario Gomez and Dutch front man Robin van Persie as joint favourites for the tournament’s Golden Boot award at 9/1. Frenchman Karim Benzema is available at 12/1 whilst Cristiano Ronaldo, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Fernando Llorente are all listed at 14/1. Andy Carroll and Wayne Rooney are the best English hopes with both available at 40/1.
Sky Bet has a market available for who punters think the two finalists will be. Spain versus Germany is the hot tip at 7/1 with Holland versus Germany at 9/1. A Spain versus Holland final is on offer at 12/1 and a Spain versus France final is 16/1. England’s best hopes are a final against Spain at 20/1.
There are a lot of specials markets doing the rounds. bet365 has a market for the lowest scoring team. Ireland are the heavy favourites to take that title at 4/1 with Denmark at 5/1 and Greece at 7/1. Totesport is offering a market for the highest scoring team. Germany are favourites at 3/1 with Spain at 7/2 and Holland at 9/2.
A range of other markets including highest scoring group game, total number of corners, total goals, anytime scorer and many more are also available throughout the tournament.
Poland versus Greece kicks off at 5pm BST today and can be seen live on BBC One.
