| England 8/1 to Win Euro 2012 After Qualifying for Quarter Finals |
William Hill was offering England at 8/1 to win Euro 2012 this morning after Roy Hodgson’s side defeated host nation Ukraine 1-0 to qualify for the Quarter Finals.Wayne Rooney’s 48th minute header saw England get the win they needed to progress and, in doing so, knocked out home nation Ukraine. England also managed to top the group after France were stunned by a 2-0 loss to already eliminated Sweden. Those results now mean that England will play Italy on Sunday and France are left with the tough task of playing Spain on Saturday.
William Hill is still offering Germany as favourites at 2/1, Spain as second favourites at 5/2 and Portugal as third favourites at 7/1 but the 8/1 price for England is the lowest they have been offered at for this tournament.
Italy, England’s Quarter Final opponents, are also available at 8/1 with France at 10/1, Czech Republic at 40/1 and Greece at 50/1.
Rooney’s goal has seen him shoot up the odds as punters have rushed to bet on him to finish as Golden Boot winner come the end of this tournament. He is only on 1 goal but missed the first two games of the tournament through suspension. He is priced at 16/1 with William Hill to finish the tournament as top scorer. Germany’s Mario Gomez is the clear favourite at 13/8 with 3 goals to his name. Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo is also hotly tipped at 7/2 and Spain’s Fernando Torres is available at 11/2.
Steven Gerrard’s performances have also captured the imagination on the pitch. This has led to many pundits tipping the England captain to be included in the UEFA Team of the Tournament. Gerrard is 1/2 to be included in the team and 6/4 to not be included.
Rooney’s return also sparked a series of bets to be placed on the English talisman. He is just 1 goal shy of Alan Shearer’s goal scoring record for England and he is available at 5/1 to win 116 or more caps for England.
