Tennis imageWilliam Hill is anticipating 2012 to be a year dominated by Novak Djokovic after the world number one retained the Australian Open title this weekend.

Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal over five sets (5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 and 7-5) to keep a firm grasp on his Australian Open title on Sunday at Melbourne Park.

This latest win not only puts Djokovic in elite company by being one of only two players in the Open era to win the Australian Open three times along with Mats Wilander but it also ensured Djokovic’s major tournaments winning streak continued to a stunning 21 matches without defeat.

William Hill is now offering odds of 2/1 that all of the major titles will be won by either Djokovic or Nadal during 2012 such is the dominance created by the two individuals in the tennis world.

Djokovic claimed it was his greatest win to date and said “You are in pain, you suffer, you know you are trying to activate your legs, you’re trying to push yourself for just one more point, one more game.”

He continued by stating “But I’m a professional tennis player. We live for these matches. We dedicate our lives to this sport so we can play a six-hour match for a Grand Slam title.”

William Hill is also offering Djokovic to win two major titles in 2012 at 1/1, three major titles in 2012 at 12/5 and four major titles at 10/1. The odds of him not winning any more major titles this year are available at 9/4 and show the confidence the bookmakers have in his ability to win another major this year.

Joe Crilly, William Hill’s spokesperson stated “Djokovic and Nadal are on great form at the moment and have to be considered as the favourites for the rest of the Majors this year.”
