| Chris Ferguson Close to Settling Case with US Department of Justice |
Poker legend Chris “Jesus” Ferguson is close to settling his case with the US Department of Justice over his role in the Full Tilt Poker controversies.Ferguson’s lawyer, Ian Imrich, said that Ferguson had been involved in “very positive dialogue” with the US Department of Justice and that the Groupe Bernard Tapie takeover of Full Tilt Poker was very much still on course to be completed in the early part of 2012.
Back in September, 2011, the US Attorney’s Office in Southern District of New York accused Ferguson of defrauding poker players at Full Tilt Poker out of $440 million. Other Full Tilt Poker board members including Raymond Bitar, Howard Lederer and Rafe Furst were also accused.
Ever since Full Tilt Poker was shut down, Groupe Bernard Tapie has been involved in a drawn out takeover bid believed to be in the range of $80 million. It was suggested in late 2011 that a deal had been confirmed between Groupe Bernard Tapie and the US Department of Justice that would see the interested party complete its takeover of Full Tilt Poker. However, news went quiet on the issue until now.
Ferguson’s talks with the US Department of Justice appears to be set to pave the way for the takeover of Full Tilt Poker by Groupe Bernard Tapie to be completed in the near future.
Imrich confirmed “Based on what Chris and I are hearing from the parties, the deal should be done within the first half, if not the first quarter, of this year.”
