| Andre Villas-Boas 3/1 with William Hill to be Sacked before Return Napoli Leg |
William Hill is listing Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas at 3/1 to be sacked before the return leg of their Champions League Last 16 tie with Napoli on Wednesday 14th March, 2012.Chelsea lost 3-1 in Naples last night after Villas-Boas chose a controversial starting line-up leaving out some of the club’s big names including Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Fernando Torres and Michael Essien.
A solitary opener from Juan Mata for Chelsea was not enough to stop Ezequiel Lavezzi’s brace and a 45th minute strike from Edinson Cavani sealing a resounding win for the Italian outfit.
The result comes just a matter of hours after Villas-Boas called on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to publicly support him in the face of ongoing unrest amongst the Chelsea supporters and media.
Villas-Boas was quick to defend his team selection saying "You can have your opinion but it was based on what was the best team in my thoughts.”
He added "We will analyse strongly what we did wrongly because a couple of things need to get better. It is not impossible to recover from 3-1."
William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said “Villas Boas is walking a knife edge, but while his team showed improvement, he may not be in position to resurrect Chelsea’s Euro hopes in two weeks time.”
The British bookmaker has Villas-Boas at 2/5 to have left Chelsea by the start of next season. He is also 7/4 to still be in charge for the return leg of the Napoli at Stamford Bridge. Whoever is in charge for the second leg, William Hill does not expect Chelsea to qualify for the next phase of the Champions League. They are being offered at 7/4 to beat Napoli over two legs where as Napoli are available at 2/5 to progress.
