| All Bets Are Off: Bookies Suspend Betting on Cash-strapped Chester |
UK bookmakers have told customers to stop asking for odds on Chester this weekend as the club’s manager Morrell Maison confirmed they only had nine senior players available. The non league side face a winding-up order over a £26,000 tax bill and are also in arrears of £37,000 to players and other clubs.
Maison told BBC Radio Merseyside: "The team virtually picks itself."
"It's the nine players we have plus the best of the academy kids. It's not an ideal situation and we're not going to win many games with that set-up."
"We need to pay off our football debts, which include three clubs and our players, which is somewhere around £37,000 in total. Once those debts are paid, we're allowed to bring players in."
Betfair are currently offering odds of 1/33 that they are beaten by Ebbsfleet, their opponants this weekend. Therefore a £10 stake will earn you 30p profit!
